Terms of Service

Effective: August 4, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Proto Nova website, API, account system, downloads, and related online services (collectively, the "Service"), operated by Lagrange Studios ("we," "us," or "our"). By checking the acceptance box, creating an account, or using the Service after being presented with these Terms, you agree to them and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility and authority

You must be at least 13 years old and legally able to agree to these Terms. If the law where you live requires parental or guardian consent, you may use the Service only with that consent. If you use the Service for an organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind it to these Terms. The Service is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13.

2. Accounts and account security

You must provide accurate information, keep it current, protect your credentials and connected accounts, and promptly notify us of suspected compromise. You may not sell, rent, transfer, share, or create accounts through automated or deceptive means. You are responsible for activity through your account to the extent permitted by law. Usernames are not property, may not impersonate others or violate rights, and may be changed or reclaimed when reasonably necessary for safety, enforcement, inactivity, or operation of the Service.

3. Google, Patreon, and payments

You may choose to sign in with Google or connect Patreon. Those services are governed by their own terms and policies. Connecting Patreon lets Proto Nova recognize eligible Lagrange Studios membership benefits, but does not make Patreon our agent or payment processor. Membership purchases, billing, refunds, cancellations, chargebacks, and payment disputes are handled by Patreon under its rules. Benefits may change or end if membership status changes, information cannot be verified, or the integration becomes unavailable.

4. Limited permission to use the Service

Subject to these Terms, Lagrange Studios grants you a limited, personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable permission to access and use the Service for its intended purposes. This is a license, not a sale or transfer of ownership. Any software package, open-source component, official modding tool, or other material accompanied by separate license terms is governed by those terms where they conflict with this section.

You are responsible for complying with applicable export-control, sanctions, import, and trade laws. You may not access, download, export, reexport, transfer, or use the Service where prohibited, for a prohibited end use, or on behalf of a prohibited person or entity. We may restrict access when reasonably necessary for trade compliance.

5. Acceptable use and prohibited conduct

You may not use the Service to violate law or another person's rights; harass, threaten, exploit, stalk, dox, defraud, or impersonate others; distribute malware or harmful code; send spam; manipulate metrics; submit deceptive listings; or publish unlawful, abusive, sexually exploitative, infringing, or privacy-invasive material.

You may not bypass authentication, access controls, bans, rate limits, or technical protections; access accounts, systems, data, endpoints, files, or administrative functions without authorization; probe or test systems without prior written permission; intercept traffic; exploit vulnerabilities; disrupt or overload infrastructure; operate bots or scrapers that burden the Service; forge requests or identifiers; or conceal prohibited conduct. Good-faith security concerns should be reported privately to our contact address before public disclosure.

Mods, modified clients, and external tools may not be used to cheat, automate gameplay unfairly, disrupt servers, evade enforcement, obtain unauthorized access, misrepresent compatibility or approval, or compromise another person's device, account, or data. You may not use Proto Nova names, logos, or branding in a way that falsely suggests sponsorship, partnership, certification, or official status.

6. Community servers and player interactions

Community servers are independently operated unless expressly labeled as official. Listing, displaying, checking the status of, or linking to a server is not an endorsement, certification, partnership, or warranty. Server operators are solely responsible for their infrastructure, security, backups, moderation, rules, content, users, legal compliance, and data practices. Players choose to connect and interact at their own risk and remain responsible for protecting their devices, accounts, and information.

Server operators must have authority to list the submitted address and content; keep listing information accurate; secure their systems; respect player rights; and promptly correct or remove unsafe, misleading, abandoned, or unauthorized listings. We may approve, reject, rank, investigate, delist, deactivate, or remove servers at our discretion to protect the Service or its users, but we do not undertake a duty to monitor every server or dispute.

Disputes between players, server operators, mod authors, and other users are between those parties. To the maximum extent permitted by law, you release Lagrange Studios and its owners, contributors, and service providers from claims arising solely from another user's or independent operator's conduct. We may choose to assist or intervene without assuming responsibility or a continuing duty to do so.

7. User submissions

You retain ownership of content you submit, including server names, descriptions, addresses, reports, and other materials. You grant Lagrange Studios a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, format, adapt for technical display, distribute, and publicly display that content as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, improve, and promote the Service. This license lasts while the content is used by the Service and for a reasonable period in backups, legal records, and materials already created.

You represent that you own or have all permissions needed for your submissions; that they are accurate and lawful; and that our permitted use will not violate intellectual-property, privacy, publicity, contractual, or other rights. Do not submit confidential information. We may remove or preserve content, restrict its visibility, or disclose it when reasonably necessary to enforce these Terms, protect rights or safety, investigate abuse, comply with law, or operate the Service.

8. Feedback and ideas

If you voluntarily provide suggestions, concepts, designs, bug reports, or other feedback, you grant Lagrange Studios a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free right to use, modify, commercialize, and incorporate it without restriction or compensation. This does not transfer ownership of unrelated content or personal information, which remains governed by the Privacy Policy.

9. Proto Nova materials and intellectual property

The Service, software, graphics, audiovisual material, documentation, branding, and other original content are owned by Lagrange Studios or its licensors and protected by law. Except for permissions expressly granted by us or an accompanying license, you may not copy, sell, sublicense, redistribute, publicly perform, commercially exploit, remove notices from, or create derivative works from Proto Nova materials. You may not reverse engineer or circumvent protections except to the limited extent that applicable law expressly permits despite this restriction.

10. Downloads and download statistics

You may download available game-client and dedicated-server packages through links we provide. You are responsible for selecting a compatible package, checking files, safely installing and operating it, maintaining backups, and following included licenses and notices. Builds may be experimental, updated, replaced, revoked, or removed without preserving older versions.

When you select a download button, the Proto Nova API records the category against a keyed, one-way hash of your IP address before redirecting to GitHub. The same hash is counted once for the client and once for the server regardless of repeat attempts in each category. Counts are approximate because addresses may be shared or change. See the Privacy Policy.

11. Mods, modified clients, and external hardware

Proto Nova may support official modding features later. Unless we expressly identify an item as official, mods, plug-ins, loaders, altered files, modified clients or servers, unofficial launchers, cheats, injectors, scripts, drivers, controllers, peripherals, and other third-party hardware or software are not developed, reviewed, approved, certified, warranted, or supported by Lagrange Studios. We do not guarantee compatibility with any current or future version.

You install, connect, and use unofficial modifications and external hardware at your own risk. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lagrange Studios and its contributors are not responsible for damage or loss caused by them, including corrupted saves or files, lost progress, account compromise, malware, privacy or security incidents, hardware or operating-system damage, overheating, server instability, incompatibility, service interruption, or enforcement by server operators or third-party platforms.

This section does not exclude liability or consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded. Merely using a third-party item does not itself eliminate rights available under applicable law; this limitation applies to defects, damage, or loss caused by the third-party item, modification, installation, configuration, or service. Future official modding programs may have additional terms.

12. Copyright and rights complaints

If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright or other rights, send a detailed notice to lagrangestudios.dev@gmail.com identifying the protected work, the challenged material and its location, your contact information, the basis of your claim, and any statements or signature required by applicable law. Knowingly false claims may create liability. We may remove or restrict material, request more information, notify the submitting user, preserve records, or terminate repeat infringers where appropriate.

13. Third-party services, links, and content

The Service may link to or interoperate with Google, Patreon, GitHub, Discord, community servers, and other third parties. Download files are currently hosted by GitHub, and your browser communicates directly with GitHub after redirection. Third parties are independent and may change, restrict, charge for, or discontinue their services. We do not control or endorse and are not responsible for their content, conduct, products, security, availability, terms, or privacy practices.

14. Updates, tests, and pre-release features

The Service may include alpha, beta, preview, experimental, incomplete, or test features. They may contain defects, lose or reset data, change without notice, perform unpredictably, or never be released. Updates may alter compatibility, configuration, saved data, servers, APIs, or mod behavior. Maintain independent backups and do not rely on the Service for safety-critical, business-critical, or irreplaceable data or operations.

15. Monitoring and enforcement

We may investigate suspected violations and use automated or manual measures to protect the Service. We are not obligated to monitor all activity, verify every identity or listing, mediate disputes, recover losses, preserve content, or take a particular enforcement action. Enforcement may include warnings, content removal, listing changes, rate limits, feature restrictions, account suspension, access blocks, evidence preservation, and reports to service providers or authorities. Failure to act in one instance does not waive our right to act later.

16. Suspension, termination, and discontinuation

We may restrict, suspend, or terminate access when we reasonably believe these Terms were violated, an account or system is compromised, payment or membership information is invalid, the Service or another person is at risk, continued access may create legal exposure, or law requires it. We may discontinue all or part of the Service. You may stop using it at any time and may use available account-deactivation tools. Termination does not entitle you to compensation from us for third-party payments or lost access, except where law requires otherwise.

17. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service and all related content, downloads, listings, status checks, integrations, and features are provided "as is," "as available," and "with all faults." Lagrange Studios and its contributors disclaim express, implied, and statutory warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, security, accuracy, availability, compatibility, and quiet enjoyment. We do not warrant that the Service is free of harmful components, that defects will be corrected, that data will be preserved, or that any server, user, download, modification, or third party is trustworthy. Nothing excludes warranties or rights that cannot legally be excluded.

18. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lagrange Studios and its owners, contributors, developers, affiliates, licensors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages; loss or corruption of data, saves, accounts, revenue, profits, goodwill, hardware, or access; replacement-service costs; or harm arising from third parties, community servers, user content, security incidents, modifications, downloads, or inability to use the Service, under any theory of liability, even if advised that harm was possible.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, aggregate liability for all claims arising from or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid directly to Lagrange Studios for the Service during the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim or USD $100. Third-party payments, including Patreon payments, are not amounts paid directly to us unless we actually received them as payment for the Service. These limitations do not apply where prohibited by law.

19. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Lagrange Studios and its owners, contributors, developers, affiliates, licensors, and service providers from claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, losses, and reasonable costs arising from your unlawful or unauthorized conduct; account activity; submissions; server operation or listing; mods, modified software, or hardware; infringement or violation of rights; or material breach of these Terms. We may control the defense of a covered matter, and you agree to reasonably cooperate. This section does not require indemnity where prohibited by law.

20. Events beyond our control

We are not responsible for delay, interruption, data loss, or failure caused by events reasonably beyond our control, including internet or utility failures, hosting or cloud-provider outages, cyberattacks, denial-of-service events, malware, labor disputes, natural disasters, fire, severe weather, war, civil unrest, government action, legal process, public-health emergencies, or failures of third-party platforms and community servers.

21. Changes to the Service and Terms

We may change the Service and these Terms as features, risks, or legal requirements evolve. Updated Terms will show a new effective date. Where required, we will provide additional notice or request consent. Continued use after updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance where permitted by law; otherwise, your remedy is to stop using the Service.

22. General terms

These Terms and incorporated policies are the entire agreement about the Service and replace prior discussions on that subject. If a provision is unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum lawful extent and the remainder will continue. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations without written permission; we may assign ours as part of a reorganization, financing, merger, acquisition, asset transfer, or by operation of law. No third party receives enforcement rights under these Terms.

Nothing in these Terms creates an employment, agency, partnership, joint venture, fiduciary, franchise, or exclusive relationship between you and Lagrange Studios. Notices and transactions may occur electronically. Section headings are for convenience. Provisions that by their nature should survive—including ownership, licenses, feedback, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, enforcement records, and general terms—survive termination.

23. Governing rules, disputes, and contact

Applicable law and courts with lawful jurisdiction govern disputes, without overriding mandatory consumer protections that apply to you. Before filing a formal claim, you and Lagrange Studios agree to make a good-faith effort to resolve it by written notice describing the issue and requested resolution, unless immediate relief is reasonably necessary or law provides otherwise.
