Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Lagrange Studios ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Proto Nova website, API, account system, and related online services (collectively, the "Service").

1. Information we collect

• Account information: username, email address, a securely hashed password when you create one, verification status, account identifiers, administrative status, and account creation information.
• Google sign-in information: your Google account identifier, verified email address, display name, and profile image. We use this information only to create, link, and sign you in to your Proto Nova account. New Google users choose a separate public Proto Nova username; we do not automatically publish your Google display name as your username. The Google access token used to retrieve this identity information is not retained.
• Patreon connection information: your Patreon user identifier, name, profile image, profile URL, vanity name, membership status, entitled Lagrange Studios tier, granted scope, and connection time. We use membership information to display your supporter badge and tier theme. Patreon access and refresh tokens are encrypted before storage and are not exposed to the frontend.
• Content and activity: information you submit through the Service, such as server listings, server requests, and account-setting actions.
• Technical information: IP address, request timing, security and rate-limit events, diagnostic logs, and similar information produced when your device communicates with the Service.

2. Cookies and browser storage

We use short-lived, HTTP-only cookies to bind Google and Patreon authorization attempts to the browser that started them. These cookies are used for security, expire after approximately ten minutes, and are not used for advertising.

After sign-in, the frontend stores the Proto Nova authentication token, basic account display information, and a cached Patreon supporter-theme identifier in your browser's local storage so you can remain signed in and avoid visual theme changes while pages load. The cached theme is checked against Patreon account information through the Proto Nova API after each page loads. You can remove this information by logging out or clearing site data.

3. How we use information

We use information to operate and secure accounts, authenticate users, connect requested third-party accounts, provide server-listing and community features, send verification and account-recovery messages, prevent abuse, diagnose problems, and improve the Service. We do not sell personal information or use Google or Patreon account data for advertising.

4. How we share information

We may share information with infrastructure, database, email, security, and hosting providers that process it on our behalf; with Google or Patreon when you request their authentication or connection services; when required by law or necessary to protect users and the Service; or as part of a merger, acquisition, or transfer of the Service. We do not permit service providers to use account information for their own advertising.

5. Google user data

Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Proto Nova requests only the openid, email, and profile scopes needed for sign-in.

6. Retention and deletion

Unverified accounts may be deleted after 24 hours. Other account information is generally retained while your account is active and as reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, dispute resolution, and operation of the Service. Patreon connection information is removed from the Proto Nova account when you disconnect Patreon. Some limited backups and security logs may remain for a reasonable period.

7. Your choices

• You can disconnect Patreon from Proto Nova Settings.
• You can revoke Google or Patreon access from the respective provider's account settings.
• You can request a password reset or account deactivation through Proto Nova Settings.
• You may request access, correction, or deletion of your information, subject to applicable law.

8. Security

We use reasonable safeguards, including password hashing, encrypted Patreon tokens, HTTPS, limited OAuth scopes, expiring one-use authorization state, and restricted authentication cookies. No system can guarantee absolute security.

9. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please contact us so it can be reviewed and removed where required.

10. Changes and contact

We may update this Policy as the Service or legal requirements change. We will update the effective date on this page when we do.
